First Polish - German poetry and painting competition "Inspired by the common heritage"






I. Organizer

II. Objectives of the competition

The overarching goal of the project is to intensify the institutional and partnership cooperation between citizens and institutions for the common cultural heritage.  


1. The aim of the German-Polish competition is to support the upbringing of children with a European sense of community, to familiarize them with culture and art, to develop an interest in the history of the Giant Mountains, creative thinking and artistic skills.  


III. Competition rules


1. The competition is open to primary school students from the districts of Zgorzelec, Lubań, Lwówek Śląski, the Giant Mountains and the city of Jelenia Góra  as

addressed to students from the districts of Görlitz, Zittau, Bautzen and Löbau in Germany.

The competition is held in two age groups:

for Polish and German children: 11-12 years, 13-14 years.


2. Participants can choose to create a painting or a poem.


The literary work is inspired by paintings by Teresa Kępowicz. The painting is inspired by the poems of the poet Anna Pilich. The works of the two artists can be found in the exhibition catalog, which is published on the museum website

In addition, the works will be made available from May 15 to August 31, 2021 at the organizer's headquarters as part of the exhibition "Budnik Heritage - A Testament of Stones".


3. Paintings:

- in any format that does not exceed DIN A3;

- any technique is allowed (painting, drawing);


4. Literary works

-  a poem or prose (e.g. description, narrative, legend, fairy tale);

- literary work a maximum of two pages DIN A4, font size 12;


5. The paintings can be scanned or a photo of the work can be taken.

When recording the work, you should ensure that the photographed work is illuminated evenly, that the image is filled with the photographed work as much as possible, and that the lens is set vertically in relation to the photographed work. Accepted file format: jpg, pdf.


6. Literary works should be submitted by e-mail or as an e-mail attachment (in the text editor).


7. The school will send the competition entries together with the registration form (Appendix No. 1) by July 31, 2021 to the following address:


8. The work will be assessed by a jury appointed by the organizer. The organizer will inform about the results of the competition by email.  


9. The authors of the most interesting works will receive material prizes and their works will be presented during the exhibition in Germany in October - November 2021.  



IV. Comments from the organizer  


1. The work must come from an author (compilations are not taken into account).  


2. A contestant can submit any number of contest entries.


3. The electronically submitted competition entries become the property of the organizers. The organizers reserve the right to exhibit these and reproduce them free of charge.  


4. The organizers reserve the right to make changes to the competition rules, about which those affected will be informed by email.



V. Prizes and announcement of the competition results


1. The winners of the Polish-German poetry and painting competition are selected by a jury consisting of Polish and German artists and cultural workers. The jury will select 10 Polish works from the submitted competition entries: 5 paintings, 5 literary works and 10 German works: 5 paintings and 5 literary works. In addition, there will be additional awards for particularly interesting competition entries.


2. The competition entries should be sent from May 15 to July 31, 2021.


3. The decision on the competition results will be made on August 31, 2021. The organizer will contact the winners by sending information to the email address provided on the registration form. The winner's name and work will be published on the organizer's website.

The organizer asks the finalists to deliver the winning works in person or by post. This is possible at two locations.

4. The award ceremony will take place during the opening ceremony of the exhibition in Germany at the beginning of October 2021.  


5. The organizer will arrange for the Polish winners and their supervisors to be transported to the award ceremony in Germany.
